As part of a long-term vision for the community the Ballynagran Energy Plus Community Project, using funding from a number of sources, proposes to develop a coordinated system that organises the local resources of wood and similar biofuels in the Ballynagran area into a sustainable supply which meets the needs of households and businesses in the area. Ultimately the project seeks to coordinate the landownership, growing, harvesting, processing, transport and use of these biomass fuels into an integrated system for the ongoing commercial and social betterment of the community.
For this reason the establishment of community woodlands a proposed for Ballynagran. These community woodlands could be developed and managed to provide both the timber resource and an amenity use for the Ballynagran community.
